Freycinet National Park

We had a nice breakfast at our B&B and the sun was shining although a bit cool when we departed on  a 60 km drive to Freycinet National Park that we could see across the bay.

We visited the park info centre and decided on a loop hike that took us to an overlook of Wineglass Bay, to the Beach of Wineglass Bay then across the peninsula to Hazard Beach and a walk skirting the shoreline. About 14 km in total.

The view back into Great Oyster Bay during the climb to the summit....

This was frustrating due to the large number of noisy, pushy Asian tourists walking four abreast, taking selfies and poking you in the eye with their sun umbrellas. A Royal pain in the ass. Thankfully they were only going the 2 km to the overlook of Wineglass Bay. Some nice views of the bay as long as you can keep the selfie sticks out of your field of view.

From here, we descended a fairly steep trail to the beach at Wineglass Bay, rated as one of the best beaches in Australia.

Monte the Moose loved playing in the sand....

We picked up the Isthmus Trail across the peninsula to Hazard Beach.

There was about a 2 km beach walk then about 6 km of cliff side walk that followed the shoreline. A few good views of Great Oyster Bay.

I saw a single boat sailing in the late afternoon sun. Looking forward to launching Synchronicity for another season....

We were just completing our walk when this kangaroo was trying to collect a toll for crossing the bridge...

On our way out of the park we stopped at an overlook at a coastal lighthouse. Again, some nice views of Thouin Bay.

This is a rock that the boats in the Sydney-Hobart race usually round close by to starboard on their way south to Hobart.

We stopped at one last overlook of Great Oyster Bay on the way back to Swansea.

There are some Pinot Noir Wineries in the area we intend on checking out tomorrow on our way to Launceston.

This is our B&B built in 1846....

  1. In terms of vistas/km driven, Tasmania looks like a good bang for the buck.
