Adelaide and Glenelg

We spent some time this morning researching and planning the latter stages of our trip before heading out for a walk to the Adelaide Central Market, only about 4 to 5 blocks away. We weren't sure what to expect but we were overwhelmed by the variety of foods available. Bigger than St. Lawrence Market in Toronto.

From there, we wandered through Chinatown down Gouger St to Victoria Square.

There are a number of interesting architectural styles in Downtown Adelaide.

We returned to the apartment for a quick lunch and to pack our backpack for a trip to Glenelg, the beach town just west of Adelaide. The easiest way to get there is on the Tram, only $9.70 for a return trip.

Glenelg is a very nice seaside town full of surfers and sun seekers.

It was sunny but there was a cool breeze blowing in off the ocean which made the idea of sunbathing on the beach a non-starter. Some people were not deterred.

Instead, we walked the oceanfront path for several km checking out the variety of expensive oceanfront properties. I think I will get this one....

There is a small marina with big boats at the north end of the beach. We stopped at a cafe out of the wind for a drink and watched the boats in the marina.

Our original intention was to stay in Glenelg for supper but some cloud cover appeared.

It was getting a bit too cool for a patio supper so we decided to hop back on the Tram and find something in the city where it would be warm enough for outdoor dining.

We found The Star of Siam and had some excellent Thai food.

Tomorrow we start our road trip to Melbourne so Chris is catching up on some laundry while I push out the blog.
